Aryah Hazley scored 29 points and shot 5-of-6 from behind the arc to lead ASU Mid-South over the Mineral Area College Lady Cardinals 71-61 in the final game of the Lady Greyhound Classic held in The Dog House.
Breaking out to a 24-9 lead, the Lady Greyhounds never trailed as Mineral Area never got closer than 7 points, which happened for the final time with 8:20 left in the fourth quarter. But ASU Mid-South responded every time the Lady Cardinals made a run and led by as many 15 points with 4:10 remaining in the game.
The Lady Greyhounds got 10 points each from Kayla Griffin and Ashley Hopkins off the bench as the ASU Mid-South bench outscored the Lady Cardinals’ bench 26-8. Hazley, Lakeycia Bables and Jazzmen Robinson all pulled down 7 rebounds each while Quintasia Leatherwood collected 10 boards to go with a gamehigh 6 assists and 7 points. The Lady Greyhounds shot 39.2 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from the three-point line while knocking down 6-of-9 free throws to Mineral Area’s 17-of-24.
Hazley, a former standout for the West Memphis Blue Devils in a career that included a state championship game appearance, is just one of Coach Addie Lees’s allnew team. Another area high school star, Marion’s Moriah Robinson, has also donned the Greyhounds jersey.
Next up is a return to The Dog House Wednesday evening for a matchup with Southwest Tennessee Community College. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m., with the men’s game to follow.
