Mid- South Mayors’ Council forming RegionSmart Tri- State Compact Initiative

news@theeveningtimes.com On a national and global level, the current economic environment requires metropolitan areas to collaborate on an unprecedented scale to remain competitive. That is why the Mid-South Mayors’ Council announced today, it has launched the formation of the RegionSmart Tri-State Compact Initiative to focus on unlocking regional economic opportunities, attracting support and funding that will benefit the entire Mid-South region.

West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon and Marion Mayor Frank Fogleman were among the more than two dozen local and regional leaders in attendance. State Senator Keith Ingram was on hand to serve as one of the conference’s facilitators at what was a first-of-its-kind gatherings.

In the past, no formal organization existed authoritatively to bring the region together to work collaboratively on truly regional challenges, priorities and opportunities.

“We must take a more regional approach at attracting large industries to the Mid-South,” said Mayor McClendon.

“Our infrastructure plays a vital part in the global economy.” We must collaborate regionally to compete

globally.
