Last call to begin the 2016 Master Gardener Training Class in Crittenden County. Classes will begin, Saturday, Feb. 6, at 8:30 a.m., in the meeting room of the County Extension Office, 116 Center St., Marion. Classes will continue for five consecutive Saturdays. Those wanting to participate will be accepted up to the day training begins. If interested, the first year you would be required to do 40 hours of volunteer work (Training Class is not included as your 40 hours) and 20 hours of education. Each year thereafter you are only required 20 hours in each category. For those that truly like gardening, making pots and stepping stones, working at the greenhouse, helping with Annual Plant Sale and Garden Tours and attending seminars, the hours come easily. Crittenden County has project sites to work on, in Marion, West Memphis, Crawfordsville and Horseshoe Lake. Those attending are in for a real treat to have Janet Carson as opening speaker of the series. Your registration fee includes your manual and helps cover lunch/snacks.

On Jan. 28, it was decided that the regular monthly meeting for the public would be on Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m., at City Hall on Highland. They decided to use Feb. 1 as their 2016 Budget meeting.

Canal Gardens Meeting

Canal Gardens Property Owners held their annual meeting on January 30th at the home of Lela Mc Collum.

The Canal Gardens annual clean-up will be May 14, with a rain date of May 21. This year we will attempt to cut some of the over hanging limbs that hit the top of pontoon boats. Also if you are discarding trees in the canal to make fish beds, you need to consider that boats do need clear passage to get through, depending
