Scholarship announced in honor of Kessinger
Former superintendent’s family sets up William M.
Kessinger Athletic Scholarship Fund
West Memphis School District An athletic scholarship awarded to a West Memphis athlete in the name of Bill Kessinger has been announced by the Kessinger family and his friends and associates.
Kessinger, the longtime superintendent of West Memphis School, died on Jan. 14. The family has now set up an athletic scholarship in his name.
Any memorials should be sent to First Baptist Church of West Memphis, 200 N. Missouri or to the William M. Kessinger Athletic Scholarship Fund, 301 South Avalon in West Memphis.
The family requests that memorials should be designated on the outside of the envelope.
Kessinger, the local superintendent from 1973 to 2013, was a huge supporter and administrator for the West Memphis athletic program.
His legacy stretched outside of education. He was a Rotary Club member, a former member of the West Memphis Boys Club Board of Directors, former member of the West Memphis Park Commission, member of Meadowbrook Country Club, he was also the first honoree of the Chamber of Commerce Citizen Roast in 1986, he was grand marshal for the 2005 West Memphis Christmas parade and he was given the Chamber of Commerce's Lifetime Achievement Award in January of 2014.
