Lady Devils hit midway point of league at 4- 3

WM School District The stout Little Rock Central girls came in with all the glitz Tuesday night at Lehr Arena, despite being handed their only loss this season last Friday night against North Little Rock.

Blessed with a deep group of big girls, the Lady Tigers blocked a bushelfull of shots, and maybe that was the difference in their 46-41 win over the West Memphis Lady Devils.

'We knew they would have us in height,' said West Memphis head coach Shelia Burns. 'But I think we played with them about as well as we could.'

West Memphis (14-6 overall, 4-3 in the 7A/6AEast Conference) turned a five-point halftime deficit (19-14) into a three-point lead (31-28) at the end of the third quarter on the strength of three threepointers, two of which came from consistent three-point threat Anquanetta Chatt, but the other one coming from unlikely source Amesha Brown, who scored 10 points.

But the battle-tested Lady Tigers (19-1, 6-1) didn't flinch.

They hit the Lady Devils with an 8-0 run to start the fourth quarter to take the lead for good.

What's more, Lady Devil senior center LaShala Saine, who scored only 4 points but made her presence

known with several

blocks and rebounds against a trio of tall Lady Tigers, picked up her third and fourth fouls in succession.

The fourth came with Saine's back-up, Ty Bullins, at the scorer's table ready to sub her out.

'Sometimes Shala gets so frustrated out there that she picks up fouls quickly,' said Burns. 'I'm going to challenge her to know that when she picks up her third foul, she just can't retaliate and pick up a nonsense

foul.'

Central's Alexsis Brown scored eight straight points in the fourth quarter and then hit 3 of 4 from the free-throw line in the final minute to dispose the Lady Devils.

Brown hit 7 of 8 from the charity stripe for the game.

'It was important for us to win this game coming off a loss,' said Brown. 'We wanted to play faster, but for some reason we didn't through the first three quarters. We did, though, in the fourth quarter.'

Brown hit a game-high 19 points while Kiara Williams poured in 11 and Bre'Amber Scott scored 7.

West Memphis was led by Sable Greer with 11 points while Chatt pumped in 9.

The Lady Devils will try to get back on the winning track on Friday at Marion.
