am writing to advocate for the establishment of a Public Health Commissioner position within our community.

As we navigate through various health crises and challenges, it has become increasingly evident that a dedicated leader in public health is essential for safeguarding the well-being of our citizens. Establishing a Public Health Commissioner position is not just a proactive measure; it is a necessary step towards prioritizing the health and well-being of our community. The role of a Public Health Commissioner would encompass several crucial responsibilities. For example, they would serve as the primary advocate for public health initiatives, ensuring that policies and programs are implemented to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of our community members. would streamline communication and decision-making processes, leading to more effective and efficient responses to emergencies. Furthermore, the Public Health Commissioner would serve as a liaison between government agencies, healthcare providers, community organizations, and the public. By fostering collaboration and partnerships, they can leverage resources and expertise from various sectors to address complex health challenges comprehensively. By doing so, we can ensure that we are better prepared to address current and future health challenges effectively. [ Editor’s Note: I mean, don’t get me wrong… on the surface, this seems like a great idea. In a perfect world, we would have local agencies working with state and federal officicials to ensure the public’s health and well- being were secure — but w live in a different world, where politics and power plays get in the way of actual health experts. I m ean look how divisive and politically-charged the whole COVID- 19 pandemic protocols and policies got. Sorry, if it sounds cynical but I can tell you with pretty strong assurance that any county or city- level public health commissioner would have next to zero autonomy, and would just be a crony for the governor and his or her party’s agenda. Why do I think this? Because we are seeing it play out that way with every other agency in the state right now]
