Trunk-or-Treat

We are inside of three weeks until Halloween. It falls on a Thursday this year, so while I’m sure there will be plenty of little vampires and ninjas and princesses roaming the streets that night in search of goodies, there will also be plenty of local organizations hosting various Halloween-ish events in the days leading up to Oct. 31 as well.
One of those organizations will be my church, Marion First Baptist (aka “the big church in the big curve”). First Marion is hosting a “Fall Festival” on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. There will be food trucks, inflatables, music and, of course… a big Trunk-or-treat! Bring the kiddos!
Now, you might think it’s strange for a church to be holding a Halloween event, even if it is cleverly given a non-Halloween name, just like the other “Harvest Party” and such events you

might see this time of year, and that’s fair. But I am glad that most of us have realized that Halloween is really just about candy and we’re not actively worshipping the Devil or practicing witchcraft.
And really, as far as our church goes, it’s really about getting people who might not otherwise visit a church to come check us out. It’s the same reason we host MYSA basketball games or an Easter Egg hunt (although that one’s a litte more on brand).
In any event, you’re all invited, and if you’ve got a Trunk-or-Treat or other event coming up, let me know the details so I can get it in the paper and let everyone know about it. Until then, Happy Hallowhatever!
