High school scores from local teams

Three of Crittenden County’s four high school football teams saw action over the weekend, with Marion notching the lone win for the home teams.

Marion 37, Harding 7

Marion moved to 2-0 on the season with a convincing win last Friday night over defending Class 4A state champion Harding Academy.

Marion travels on Friday to Conway to play the topranked Class 7A team in the state. The Patriots scored 25 unanswered points to finish the game. The offensive onslaught included 184 yards rushing and three TDs from senior tailback Jalen Smith.

West Memphis vs. Valley View

The West Memphis Blue Devils opened their 2024 season with a 34-7 loss to the Hot Springs Trojans on Aug. 30. The Blue Devils were idle this week.

The Blue Devils (0-1) will be returning to action this Friday night for the Devils’ home opener. West Memphis takes on Valley View. The Blazers (2-0) topped the Searcy Lions last Friday night by a score of 49-29. Game time at Hamilton-Shultz Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

Canton 41, WMCS 8

The Canton Academy (Canton, MS) Panthers won last Friday’s home conference game against West Memphis Christian by a score of 41-8.

The Black Knights (0-4) will now prepare for their contest with the St. Joseph Fighting Irish (Greenville, MS). The Irish enter the game with a 2-0 record. In their last contest, St. Joseph shut Clinton Christian Academy out (Columbus, MS), 55-0. Game time is set for 7 p.m. this Friday night in West Memphis.

Central 34, Earle 20

The Earle Bulldogs opened their 2024 season with a tough 34-20 loss to the Central Cougars of Helena-West Helena.

The Bulldogs will play host to Walnut Ridge this Friday night at Bulldogs Stadium in Earle. The Bobcats are 2-0 to start the season, including a win over Trumann, 29-28, last Friday night. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
