Crittenden County residents, enjoy the milder temperatures while they last, because a blast of Arctic air is headed this way next week. Although the area has seen some relief from the deep freeze, weather experts caution that “we’re not out of the woods yet.”

This week will bring highs in the 40s and 50s during the day, with lows dipping into the 20s at night, creating a continued cycle of thaw and re-freeze. A slight chance of showers is expected Friday as a new cold front moves in, setting the stage for a significant drop in temperatures by Sunday.

Once the Arctic air arrives, temperatures will plummet, with highs only reaching the 20s and 30s Sunday through Tuesday. Wind chill readings could dip dangerously close to zero, creating hazardous conditions for anyone exposed to the cold for extended periods. While forecasters currently predict only a few flurries in northern Arkansas, the bitter cold will be felt across the region.

West Memphis Emergency Management Director Dewayne Rose noted that officials are keeping a close eye on the situation. “We are monitoring it and it is getting some discussion.” said Rose, “Another possible round of snow on the 20th. It’s still too early to tell, but we are definitely keeping an eye on it and prepared.”

Residents are urged to take precautions to protect themselves and their homes from the freezing temperatures. Keep pipes insulated, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, and stock up on necessities in case the cold weather disrupts travel or utilities.
