Election tomorrow includes slate of West Memphis council races

While many eyes in tomorrow’s long-awaited General Election will be trained on the race for the United States presidency, statewide ballot issues, congressional races and more, voters in the City of West Memphis will be asked to weigh in on a number of city council races as they head to the polls tomorrow to cast their ballots.

But do you know where to go to make your voice hears?

Polling places change from election to election, as some sites become unavailable or population shifts necessitate

accommodating population shifts, and the 2024 General Election is no different in that regard.

On Tuesday, there will be a total of six polling sites in the City of West Memphis:

• Calvary Baptist Church, 1600 N. Avalon

• West Memphis First Baptist Church, 200 N. Missouri St.

• Lehr Arena, 503 W. Broadway Ave.

• 7th Street Church of Christ, 899 N. 7th St.

• Roberta Jackson Neighborhood Center, 1300 E. Polk Ave.

• L.R. Jackson Girls Club, 405 S. 25th St.

As a general rule, your polling place will be the location nearest your registered voter address, but if you are unsure, you can contact the Crittenden County Clerk’s Office at (870) 739-4434 to confirm.

You will not be allowed to vote at the incorrect polling place.

In Crittenden Counnty’s largest city, West Memphis, five of the city’s 10 city council positions are up for grabs.

Of those five seats, four will see contested races.

• In the race for the Ward 1, Position 2 seat, incumbent Tracy Catt will face a pair of challengers: Jessica Burns and Dr. Alfreda Robinson.

• City Councilwoman Melanie Hutchinson will be unopposed in her re-election bid for the Ward 2, Position 2 seat.

• In the Ward 3, Position 2 race, Wayne Croom is seeking re-election. He will be challenged by Joseph Tucker Jr., a first-time political candidate, in November for his seat.

• West Memphis City Councilman David Murray also has an opponent as he seeks reelection for the Ward 4, Position 2 seat. His opponent in that race will be Tyrone McWright.

• And another pair of familiar faces will be facing off in the race for the Ward 5, Position 2 seat. Longtime City Councilman Willis Mondy will be seeking re-election. Challenging Mondy for that seat will be Al Felton.

Polls will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
