Crittenden County poll workers needed for Nov. 5 elections

Training sessions set for later this month ahead of early voting start

Calling all concerned citizens of Crittenden County with a sense of civic duty…

“Interested in working the polls on November 5? If so, the Crittenden County Election Commission wants you!

Jennifer Hamrick offered all the details about how to become a poll worker, including the forms you need to fill out and the necessary training to become qualified.

“If you’re interested in being a poll worker on Tuesday, November 5, please complete this form,” Hamrick said in a messge to the Times. The form is available online at: https://forms.gle/Y9vjAZsPF CJmKXJv6 “There is a mandatory training class for all new workers to attend,” she added.

The available times for the class are:

• Thursday, September 26, at 2 p.m.

• Friday, September 27, at 10 a.m.

• Friday, September 27, at 2 p.m.

“You only need to attend one class,” said Hamrick.

The 2024 Poll Worker Interest Form is a fairly straightforward application, beginning with a quick “Thank you for your interest in serving as a poll worker in the 2024 General Election,” message advising applicants to read the form in its entirety before completing and submitting your information.

“You will be contacted via email within five business days of submission,” said Hamrick. “Submission does not guarantee a position. Crittenden County is not responsible for errors during submission.”

Qualifications of Election Officials Designated as Poll Workers (Arkansas Code Ann. 7-4-109):

• Must be a qualified elector of this state.

• Must be able to read and write the English language.

• Must be a resident of the precinct in which he or she serves at the time of his or her appointment or a qualified county resident if the county board can’t find qualified election officials for that precinct.

• Must not have been found guilty or pled guilty or nolo contendere to the violation of any election law of this state.

• Must not be paid employees of any political party.

• Must not be paid employees of any person running for office.

• Must not be candidate for any office to be filled at an election while serving as an election official.

• Must not be married to or related within the second degree of consanguinity to any candidate running for office in the current election if objection to the service is made to the county board of election commissioners within ten calendar days after posting the list of election officials.

“Poll worker training classes will be held in West Memphis, and attendance and completion of the class are mandatory for any person working the polls in 2024,” said Hamrick. “Location of the class is TBA. You will be contacted by phone or email with additional information.”

She added that completion of a W-4 and I-9 are required prior to employment.

“Please bring 2 forms of ID — ex. driver's license and social security card — to your training class. Acceptable forms of ID are listed on page 2 of thw application. Please ensure the contact information you enter is correct.
