list. This marks the fourth watch list Henigan has been named to this preseason – the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp Award, Davey O’Brien Award, and now the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given annually to the nation’s top senior or upperclassmen quarterback.
This season’s list acknowledges 63 of the nation’s leading quarterbacks, and Henigan is one of four quarterbacks within The American named to the watch list (Byrum Brown – South Florida; Preston Stone – SMU; Jacob Zeno – UAB).
In 2023, Henigan helped lead the Tigers to a 10-3 record and a victory over Iowa State in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. The 21-year-old is entering his fourth season at the helm of the Tiger offense, making him the only fourth-year starting quarterback in FBS to spend all four seasons at one institution.
The senior quarterback had his best season yet in 2023, passing for 3,883 yards and 32 touchdowns to just nine interceptions while rushing for another five scores and setting the single- season completions (318) record for the Tigers.
Henigan is the Memphis-career leader entering 2024 in completions (839) and passing yards (10,776) while his 79 touchdowns are just a dozen shy of Brady White’s career record. The senior has logged 18-career 300-yard passing games and five 400-yard efforts over his career – both good for program records. If Henigan throws for his career average in passing touchdowns (26) in 2024, he would enter the NCAA’s top 25 all-time in that stat and would become just the second QB since 2013 to post fourstraight seasons with at least 25 total touchdowns.
This year’s award winner will be presented the Golden Arm Award trophy at the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award celebration the Four Seasons Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland on Friday, December 6, 2024.
