What if we residents were ….

What if we residents were able to vote on every legislative decision being proposed in our governmental process? Although most of us would love to have that benefit become reality, it is not considered a practical way of governing. As a result, we are left to fend for ourselves, and to sort through a sea of candidates that are running for office.

In my view, one of the most important sources the residents should have access to during campaign season is the candidate’s track record. In most cases, a candidate’s track record will reveal their motives and interests, and whether they are, or can be, an effective leader. From my perspective, candidates that have held office before offer an accurate picture of what their motives and interests are, and to what extent they are willing to work for the betterment of the people. The residents should be aware of the candidates with short-sighted and one-sided agendas, an exaggerated importance of self, and the ones that quit on the residents. The residents cannot personally vote on the executive and legislative decisions of the city, but they do have the power to choose an effective leader to get the job done for them. For the next election cycle (2024), I am respectfully urging the residents to weigh the motives and interests of each candidate, and to use your vote to set this state on a course of reasonableness and common sense [ Editor’s Note: I would love to see that too, unfortunately, a lot of what I’ve seen lately makes me think that “ common sense” and “ government” are not on the same page, not even in the same book, and maybe not even in the same library…]

*** I was very happy to hear about the lawsuit against Summit Gas. They are ripping us off and no one is doing anything about it, not even after the Attorney General was notified of their over charging. Now maybe something will happen. Oh… I forgot where we were. If anything actually does happen in the form of a fine or something, they’ll just pass the cost of that on to us the customers! [ Editor’s Note: As a Summit Utilities customer myself, I too am interested to see where this class- action lawsuit goes.

In the meantime, they’ve been barred from shutting anyone’s gas off, so you’ve got that going for you at least…]
