swamp that God or Mother Nature or whoever never intended to be home to a developed city, so why wouldn’t it flood?]

Didn’t we spend thousands of dollars (or maybe it was millions) to replace, repair or whatever the pumps in the city drainage system?

Did they actually do any of those repairs or did someone just pocket that money and say it was fixed?

Because the flooding in West Memphis, especially on the South Side is worse as it has ever been!

[ Editor’s Note: The City of West Memphis has been fighting flooding for, well, for as long as I remember.

As far back as the 1980s, places like the Westwood Acres subdivision and neighborhoods just west of North Avalon have seen frequent flooding. More recently, yes, the city has installed and repaired pumps over the years, and I think many folks would tell you that the problem has improved — of course that is little comfort when it’s your house or your street getting flooded. I went back and searched the recent Times archives and found no less than six news stories specifically about the city’s efforts to improve drainage and resuce flooding. It will be neither a quick nor an easy fix ( nor a cheap one). Two things to remember here: Sometimes you just get more rain than even the best systems can handle, and this entire county is a natural cypress

*** Nothing in the paper about the murder in Turrell?

[ Editor’s Note: Full disclosure, I had not heard anything about a murder in Turrell, so I did a little digging around and did find that a woman named Vivian Voyles, age 63, of Turrell, was indeed charged with 1st degree murder on Feb. 24. I checked the online database for court records but found nothing, so stay tuned and I’ll see if there’s anything I can find out…]
