The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team’s first trip to the Class 5A State Tournament in three years came to an end during Tuesday’s opening round action.
It was a slow first quarter with the Devils eventually putting up a three-pointer that gave them a 13-7 edge. The Lady Bombers ended up suffering a 57-39 loss to West Memphis at the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
The game was kept close early on with two ties and two lead changes in the first quarter. The Lady Blue Devils got a little more distance as they went into the halftime locker room up eight. West Memphis pulled away further in the second half as Mountain Home struggled with their shooting, and the Lady Blue Devils had multiple second chance opportunities. West Memphis outrebounded the Lady Bombers 38-18 on their way to the 18-point win.
Amelia Rucker led Mountain Home with 16 points as she and fellow seniors Kamryn Mullin and Lauren Wehmeyer wore the Lady Bomber uniform for the final time, and Laykin Moore added 14.
Janiyah Tucker scored 18 points for the Lady Blue Devils, Tyra Taylor had 17, and Clemisha Prackett chipped in 13 in the team effort.
West Memphis improves to 26-3, and they’ll return to Pine Bluff on Friday to play in the quarterfinals.
Mountain Home’s season ends at 16-15.
