I have heard that West ….

I have heard that West Memphis schools are planning to go to the same all year long school year the same way that Marion is doing now? Why? If it ain’t broke don’t fix it I say and if they are so big on changing the way it is now why not do the four day s aweek that they said they were going to do last year that everyone wanted and the school board said no to without even asking the parents? [ Editor’s Note: I can confirm that the West Memphis School District is indeed currently exploring the idea of going to a “ hybrid” school calendar next school year, which is what Marion schools currently use. I don’t know if it would be exactly the same as Marion’s school year or something different. I will point out that neither what Mairon does now nor what West Memphis has planned would technically be a “ year- round” school calendar. It’s just taking a couple of weeks off of the beginning and end of the long summer break and putting those “ off” days elsewhere in the school year. It seems to be working in Marion, so I guess the argument is why not give it a try? As for your question about the proposed four- day school week that was proposed and then never actually voted on last school year, your guess is as good as mine, although all of that was one reason, I think, for the ousting of some longtime board members in last year’s elections…]
