The ASU Mid-South women’s basketball team just missed out on extending its winning streak to four games, dropping a close matchup Monday night after picking up a big road win over the weekend.

Rockets 52, Greyhounds 43

The Lady Greyhounds trailed by just 3 points entering the fourth quarter but could not finish the job against the 17th-ranked Southern Arkansas University Tech Lady Rockets Thursday at The Dog House in West Memphis, Arkansas.

The 52-43 final score is a bit misleading as ASU Mid-South trailed by just 5 points late in the fourth period and were forced to foul to stop the clock and put the Lady Rockets at the free throw line where they went 8-of-11 in the last 45 seconds.

The Lady Greyhounds held SAU Tech to 35.6 percent shooting from the field and just 25.0 percent from the three-point line but managed to shoot only 27.7 percent from the field and 18.8 percent from the arc. ASU Mid-South won the rebounding battle, 46-39, but committed two more turnovers.

Jazzmen Robinson led the Lady Greyhounds with 15 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the season. Aryah Hazley finished with 13 points and gamehighs of 4 assists and 5 steals.

The Lady Greyhounds (126, 2-1) return to The Dog House to host National Park College Thursday at 5:30pm before finishing the first half of Region 2 play at North Arkansas College Saturday. A win by the Greyhounds paired with an SAU Tech loss would put ASU Mid-South into a tie for first place in Region 2 play.

Greyhounds 68, Colts 63

Flagged for a season-high 33 personal fouls, the Lady Greyhounds were able to overcome their road woes to take a 6863 victory over the UA Cossatot Lady Colts Saturday at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium in Lockesburg, Arkansas.

With both teams cold from the field and only three 3-point baskets made between the two teams, ASU Mid-South hit 13-of-20 (65.0 percent) from the free throw line and could only watch as the home team shot 41 free throws. Fortunately, the Lady Colts hit just 21-of-41 (51.2 percent) and turned the ball over 26 times to give the Lady Greyhounds the edge they needed to take home the win. Despite falling behind 21-12 in the first quarter, ASU Mid-South battled back to trail 34-31 at the half. But the Lady Greyhounds outscored UA Cossatot in both the third and fourth quarters despite four of their ten players fouling out of the game.

The star of the game was ASU Mid-South guard Quintasia Leatherwood who led both teams in four statistical categories with 26 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals while shooting an outstanding 10-of-18 from the field, 1-of-1 from the threepoint line and 5-of-7 from the free throw line. Aryah Hazley finished with 12 points and 4 assists while Kya Washington scored 7 points as both players fouled out of the game.

The Lady Greyhounds (12-6, 2-1) return to The Dog House to host National Park College Thursday at 5:30 p.m., before finishing the first half of Region 2 play at North Arkansas College on Saturday.
