The ASU Mid-South men’s basketball team finds itself atop the NJCAA Region 2 standings after a pair of recent wins.

Greyhounds 85, Colts 67

Racing to a 23-point lead at the half, the Greyhounds held off the hosts in taking home an 85-67 victory over the UA Cossatot Colts Saturday at the UA Cossatot Bank of Lockesburg Gymnasium in Lockesburg, Arkansas.

The Colts hit a three-pointer to lead 3-2 with 18:54 remaining in the first half before ASU Mid-South went on a 24-8 run capped by a T.J. Stewart alley-oop from Markese Bolden. The Greyhounds would then go on a 12-0 run on their way to a 44-21 halftime lead. But the Colts would battle back in the second half to close the gap to 54-44 at the 11:26 mark and then again, 63-53, with 5:58 remaining. But ASU Mid-South then went on a 14-6 run to stretch the lead to 18 points, and UA Cossatot got no closer than 15 points the rest of the way.

The Greyhounds shot 44.8 percent from the field and 6-of-15 (40.0 percent) from the three-point line while connecting on 73.0 percent from the free throw line. They also controlled the boards, 41-35, and forced 16 turnovers to their own 14 while limiting the Colts to 41.8 percent shooting from the field and just 3-of-18 (16.7 percent) from the arc.

Christian Thompson led all scorers with 21 points to go with 7 rebounds while Jesse Washington poured in 20 points on 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) shooting and 3-of-6 from the three-point line. Braxtyn McCuien scored 15 points while going 2-of-2 from the arc with 5 rebounds and 2 steals, and Jailen Anderson chipped in 12 points to go with a gamehigh 6 assists, and he and O.J. Marrs led the team with 8 rebounds each.

Greyhounds 110, Eagles 64

The Greyhounds forced 20 turnovers and used a 4328 rebounding advantage to take a 110-64 victory over the visiting Williams Baptist University JV Eagles Monday at The Dog House in West Memphis.

The teams battled even for the first 6 1/2 minutes of the game until ASU Mid-South took the lead for good on a T.J. Stewart layup with 13:25 left in the first half and never looked back, going on a 14-2 run over the next three minutes and leading 57-33 at the half. Then in the second half, the Greyhounds began with a 19-6 run to put the game away.

Holding the Eagles to just 38.5 percent shooting from the field and only three three-pointers, ASU Mid-South shot 55.7 percent from the field and hit 15 treys for the win.

Jesse Washington led all scorers with 21 points to go with 6 rebounds, and Chris Martin hit for 20 points with 6 three-pointers to go with 5 boards and 4 assists. O.J. Marrs scored a career-high 17 points, Je’marion Westbrook finished with a double- double of 12 points and 13 rebounds, Jailen Anderson scored 11 points to go with 4 assists, and T.J. Stewart chipped in 10 points.

The Greyhounds (15-6, 3-0) turn their attention back to NJCAA Region 2 play beginning with National Park College (11-6, 2-1) Thursday night in The Dog House and traveling to play North Arkansas College (15-4, 1-2) Saturday in Harrison.
