Poor rebounding costs ASU Mid-South against St. Louis Community College

The Greyhounds committed 25 turnovers which the St. Louis Community College Archers turned into 31 points as the visitors took an 82-73 victory over the Greyhounds Wednesday at The Dog House.

turnovers to go on an 18-4 run in the final 4:38 to lead 35-31 at the half. Then in the second half, the Greyhounds would cut it to 3 at the 15:48 mark before St. Louis got the lead to 12 points, 59-47, behind three 3-pointers in a span of less than two minutes and led by as much as 14 points with 10:50 to go. ASU Mid-South would battle back to cut the lead to 6 points on two occasions, but St. Louis would respond by capitalizing on turnovers in transition.

The Greyhounds shot 45.5% from the field and 18-of-22 (81.8%) from the free throw line, but managed just 5-of-19 from behind the arc while giving St. Louis 31 points off 25 turnovers. Meanwhile, ASU Mid-South managed to score just 9 points off 18 St. Louis turnovers. Jesse Washington led all scorers with 23 points to go with 4 rebounds and 4 assists while Christian Thompson and Je’marion Westbrook scored 14 points each with Thompson pulling down a team-high 6 rebounds.

Jailen Anderson led the team with 5 assists to go with 7 points.

With the loss, ASU Mid-South falls to 9-5 on the season with a trip across the Mississippi River to Southwest Tennessee Community College Saturday. The next home game is Monday, January 9, as the Greyhounds host new NJCAA Region 2 member Shorter College in a doubleheader with the women’s game starting the action at 5:30pm.

The Greyhounds fought tooth-and-nail for every possession but the Archers held on to escape The Dog House with an 82-73 win. ASU Mid-South will be back home on Monday to face Shorter College.
