Using an efficient offense and clamping down on defense in the second half, the Greyhounds took a 9178 victory Monday over the Northwest Mississippi Community College Rangers at Howard Coliseum in Senatobia, Mississippi.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a 10-2 lead to start the game and led 43-34 with 1:40 left in the half, but Northwest’s Jaylon Sanders hit three three-pointers in a row in the last 1:30 to close the gap to a 47-43 Greyhound lead at halftime.

In the second half, the Rangers pulled within 4847 before ASU Mid-South began to pull away. By the 10:27 mark the Greyhounds had gone on a 19-9 run and led 67-56, and then stretched the lead to 80-64 on an alley-oop from Jesse Washington to T.J. Stewart with 6:40 remaining, and then 85-66 on a Washington layup with 5:21 left to play.

The Greyhounds held Northwest to 40.3 percent shooting including just 7-of-25 (28.0 percent) from the three-point line while shooting 61.9 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from the arc. The Greyhounds were flagged for 18 fouls to just 9 for the Rangers which gave Northwest 28 free throws to the Greyhounds’ 14, but rebounds and turnovers were just about even as ASU Mid-South was able to get the season sweep over the Rangers for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

Jailen Anderson led the Greyhounds with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists while Christian Thompson notched his first double- double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Braxtyn McCuien scored a quiet 16 points to go with 8 boards, and T.J. Stewart chipped in 13 points while O.J. Marrs and Jesse Washington scored 7 points each.

ASU Mid-South (7-3) now takes a week off before returning to The Dog House for three home games beginning with Crowley’s Ridge College JV on Monday, December 5. Dyersburg State Community College visits on Saturday, December 10, and Jones College comes to West Memphis on Tuesday, December 13. The Greyhounds finish the calendar year at St. Louis Community College Saturday, December 17.
