The temperature is dropping, decorations are going up on Broadway and Missouri, days are getting shorter and you just might catch a whiff of something scrumptious being cooked up at a neighbor’s home or even your own as Jack Frost begins nipping at your nose and you know that that means; West Memphians are gearing up for “the most wonderful time of the year” with several city-wide events to help you get into that Christmas cheer.

Starting this Monday, Nov. 21 and running through Dec. 9, the City of West Memphis and the Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring “Operation Letters to Santa” and The Times will be printing some of those letters. The best part is, Santa will be responding! To participate, have your child write a letter to Santa and simply drop it off at the North Pole Mailboxes located at City Hall on 205 S. Redding or the Chamber of Commerce at 108 W. Broadway. Be sure to write your child’s name, school, and teacher’s name clearly so Santa knows where to send his letter.

Elsewhere, The Annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony will be held this Tuesday, November 22, at Worthing Park at 6pm where there will be a petting zoo, train rides and pictures with Santa. Speaking of pictures with Santa, if you missed Caldwell Gifts photos with Santa on Nov. 12 you will have another opportunity on Dec. 3, completely free of charge at Caldwell Gifts located at 648 W. Broadway, from 11:30 a.m to 3 p.m.

Finally, if that is not enough to suppress that nasty grinch hiding in all of us, Santa will be in the West Memphis area one more time before Christmas, on Dec. 10 from 1 to 3 p.m., at the West Memphis Municipal Airport for Santa’s Annual Fly-In taking photos and eating cookies with good boys and girls big and small. For more information please consult the West Memphis Chamber of Commerce page on Facebook.
