Glad to see all of the trunk or treats in the community but what about something for the older kids on Halloween? I’m sure they would like to celebrate too.

[ Editor’s Note: I guess it’s not a “ bad” idea but when I was a teenager I would have preferred to do my own thing on Halloween but I suppose some community teen thing would be cool to at least try…]

*** To the person complaining about the speed bumps in West Memphis, you should sit on my front porch and see how fast people drive down the street like it was the Indy 500. Or at least they used to. N ow they slow down which is exactly how speed bumps are supposed to work. You might be slowed but it hasn’t been that long ago that a little boy was hit by a car while riding his bike. I am not the one who requested them but I am glad the city installed them! Don’t like it, go another way to get

[ Editor’s Note: I remember that incident. I had to look it up, and it’s been longer than you might think. That was in 2008, and in case you’re curious, the boy was injured but recovered, and the driver that hit him left the scene. I don’t think they ever caught who did it. But to your point, we do sometimes get a little too caught up in a me- centric way of

*** I thought it was against the law to put something in someone’s mailbox? I got a flyer for Terry Fuller for the senate in mine today.

Even if I support a candidate I don’t want anyone putting anything in my mailbox! [ Editor’s Note: A couple of things… yes, it is 100% illegal for anyone other than “ authorized U. S. Postal Service delivery personnel” to place any item in a mailbox ( per the USPS web site). Now, the FBI isn’t going to come kicking your door down for telling your friend, “ Hey, I put that extra key you gave me in your mailbox” or anything but yes, the sort of thing you describe would definitely be against the law… BUT, before you alert the authorities, check on the bottom right corner of the flyer to see if there’s a name and address, or even “ Current Resident” and an address. I say this because I got a “ Vote for Terry Fuller” flyer in my mailbox yesterday and it was clearly sent through the mail to my house, which, as I’m sure you know, is completely legal. I would be quite surprised if it was just stuck in there by local campaigners. They almost always knock on the door. I have even had a couple ask to stick yard signs in my yard this time around which doesn’t usually happen since I live on the last house at the end of a dead end street. The only people those signs are going to influence are my family, the pizza guy and the UPS driver delivering all of my wife’s Amazon packages…]
