Phillip Farris, member of the 99th Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol, was promoted to 1st Lieutenant. Lt. Farris was a former cadet who served as the Cadet Commander at one time, is now the Deputy Commander Cadets for the squadron. At the promotion ceremony Lt. Farris’ son who is a cadet in the squadron placed the epaulets on.

His many activities included attending the International Air Cadet Exchange where he went to Germany in 1990, attended the Southwest Region Search and Rescue Exercise and placed 1st in the ground team first aid training, and attended 3 encampments. He earned the Earhart Achievement Award, Communicator Badge and was the Arkansas Wing Cadet of the Year.

As Deputy Commander Cadets he is responsible for the cadet program ensuring cadets achieve their goals for advancement and setting up aerospace related activities, such as orientation flights.

The 99th Composite Squadron meets on the first three Monday nights of the month at the ASU Aviation Technical Center at 409 Taxiway in West Memphis from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. To learn more about Civil Air Patrol go to www.gocivilair patrol.com or www.CAP. credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 82 lives annually. CAP’s 54,000 members also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state, and local agencies.
