The second- and third-largest cities in the county are guaranteed to have new leadership following the elections. Longtime Marion Mayor Frank Fogleman is stepping down at the end of his _nal term. City Economic Development Director Tracy Brick is the sole candidate to replace Fogleman. Brick’s ascendency would be an historic _rst, as the _rst woman to serve as mayor of Marion since it was founded in 1896.

The City of Earle will also be getting a new mayor. Current Mayor Sherman Smith, did not _le for re-election. Many may remember that Smith became mayor after Earle voters ousted then-mayor Carolyn Jones from of_ce mid-term in a recall vote. Smith, by comparison, brought stability back to the of_ce during his tenure. Vying for his seat will be a collection of _ve candidates, including Barbara Booker-Adkins, Ramonda Henderson, Memi Matthews Sr., Jaylen Smith, and Donald Ray Stone.

Voters in Anthonyville, Clarkedale, Crawfordsville, Edmondson, Gilmore, Horseshoe Lake, Jeannette, Jericho, Sunset and Turrell will also head to the polls to elect of_cials in their communities. Look for a complete list of all municipal candidates in an upcoming edition of the Evening Times.

An important deadline to note is for registering to vote. In order to be able to vote in the November election, you must register with the County Clerk’s Of_ce no later than Oct. 10, 2022.

Frank Barton, Crittenden County Election Commission chairman has set the date and time for the ballot draw, which will determine in what order the candidates’ names will appear on the ballot.

“The County Election Commission is giving notice for the Ballot Draw meeting for the November General Election,” said Barton. “The meeting will be held on August 25, 2022, at 1 p.m. in the Quorum Court room at the County Courthouse.”

The public is invited to attend.
