The pandemic-delayed convenience store, QuikTrip, has finally begun construction, as promised by West Memphis Mayor Marco McClendon back in 2020.

The Oklahoma-based franchise will be located at the corner of North 7th Street and the East Service Road and will be one of over 800 QuikTrip stores across Arizona, Missouri, Texas, Alabama, Kansas and Georgia but is the first to be located here in the Mid-South. Construction is expected to be completed in less than a year.

Known for its food as well as all the other conveniences of such travel stops, the QuikTrip kitchen will offer fresh made-to-order pizza, breakfast burritos, sandwiches, wraps, and flatbreads, as well as ice cream, milkshakes, and specialty coffee drinks. The chains‘ pulled pork sandwich has quite a large following online.

“This is a big announcement for our community,” said Mayor Marco Mc-Clendon. “We are thrilled that they are continuing our winning streak and are coming to West Memphis.”

The first QuikTrip was opened in 1958 in Tulsa by Burt Holmes and Chester Cadieux. The company expanded outside of Oklahoma in 1968, and started selling gasoline in 1971. Chester’s son, Chet, Jr., is the current CEO.
