Happy Day at DeGray

Share

The 'dog days' of August don't always correllate to good fish days, but some days are still special. Guide John Duncan, who reports for us from DeGray Lake and Iron Mountain Marina with YoYo Guide Service, forwarded along this photo of 81-year-old Happy Caldwell and a nice crappie. John says the area is in need of a weather change to crank up the regular good fishing, but anglers can find crappie with drop-shots around the brushpiles; try to fish the ones that are just out of the lake's thermocline and fish near the bottom. It's that time of year when most all the crappie and big bass are searching out the colder water, so there is little surface activity. According to this week's Fishing Reports, Harris Brake Lake in Perry County also has great fishing right now, so you might want to load up and check it out.
