W hat just happened?

I only got 1 of 1 ballot. The poll worker couldn’t help me. Two others complain that Milton Nicks was not on their ballot. No help. What happened? [OK, so obviously, I was not there and I can’t say for sure what might have happened with your voting experience. I will, however, offer you a couple of possible explanations that do not involve malfeasance of any kind.

One, did you select the Republican or Democratic primary ballot? If you selected the Republican primary, you would have had far fewer races on your ballot, because there were very few Republican candidates in the local races and most, perhaps all of them, were uncontested. A second possibly confusing issue at the voting booths this time around is that early voting at either of the Marion or West Memphis locations was OK for anyone in the county. Until this year, all early voting was done at a single location, usually the courthouse. So, if you live in Marion or any of the other areas included in State House District 35, you would have had the opportunity to select either Rep. Nicks or his opponent, Demetris Johnson Jr. If you live in West Memphis or any of the other areas included in State House District 63, your choices would have been between State Rep. Deborah Ferguson and Lincoln Barrett. Rep.

Nicks would not have been on that ballot. With the newly drawn district boundaries, it’s possible for you or anyone else to have been in Nicks’s district in 2020 but not in 2022 (and vice versa). And if you voted in the Republican primary, you would not have voted for any of those candidates, because they are Democrats. Funny side note, many Republican voters will actually choose to vote in the Democratic primaries (and vice versa) when there are more candidates in those races, usually to either steer more votes toward more favorable candidates or because their party of preference is already pretty well assured of victory.

I hope all of that makes sense. I suppose there is also a third option, which is that someone screwed up, but I really think it’s one of the other two that is more likely] {span}It’s sad that I live in Arkansas and pay taxes in Arkansas, but Crittenden County Correction Center can’t do fingerprint cards for me to get a license in another state because I’m not working in Arkansas!!! What kind of BS is that?!!!

[Editor’s Note: I can’t say for sure, but I’m sure there is something from a statute or budgetary standpoint that decides who can and can’t do fingerprinting for licensure and such. Also, I would imagine there are also guidelines for which states will accept fingerprints from which other states, and reciprocity doesn’t always include even neighboring states.

Having said that, there are a bunch of other places that do fingerprinting around here. You might try the local State Police headquarters on Shoppingway where they do the driver’s tests, or if it’s for Tennessee, I’m sure there are plenty of places in Memphis that could do it] The words ‘Trump’ and ‘bias’ have appeared in probably thousands of newspaper reports especially in conjunction with ‘fake news’ but now there is a new and quite different example. Melania Trump has expressed concern that Vogue magazine may be biased against her as they haven’t asked her to be on the front page. Maybe Vogue does have some biases as they have also never asked me to appear on their cover either. This is possibly related to me being a 63-year-old, fat, bald man with the general appearance of a Biker. I would even be willing to wear a nice evening dress although they don’t seem to come in a 7X size. I’m not holding a grudge and am still ready to make my own unique contribution to the fashion world. [Editor’s Note: I would love to know the series of events that led to you taking the time out of your day to send this message. Having said that, you’re clearly not a Trump fan (neither am I), so I will give you a little advice … just stop talking about him. That’s literally the worst thing anyone could do to Trump.

Simply don’t give him any attention. Good luck with Vogue, though]
