Patriots earn postseason honors for 2021-22 hoops

Marion basketball program recognized with All- State, All- Conference selections follwing state runner- up finish

Marion School District Five Marion basketball players earned postseason awards after helping the Patriots finish 25-8 overall and 11-3 in the 5A East.

The conference runners-up also finished 2021-2022 as state runners-up as Marion played for a state championship for the second time in four years.

Junior cousins Jayden and Ryan Forrest earned allstate honors, while senior Omarion Jefferson, junior Donnie Cheers, and freshman Terrion Burgess landed on the all-conference

Jayden and Ryan Forrest also earned Class 5A alltournament honors after guiding Marion to the state finals for the third time in school history (1993 and 2019). Jayden Forrest earned all-state honors for the second year in a row.

Jefferson caps his four-year varsity career by earning all-league honors as a senior. Cheers followed up his all-conference football campaign in the fall by starting most games for the hoops team. Burgess missed a handful of games in November and December but started every game from the beginning of February until the state final.
