A broad daylight shooting in West Memphis ended with a crash Monday afternoon. Police shut down the five-lane wide East Broadway between Martin Luther King Blvd. and Walker Street after shots were fired at a car. The car crashed into the gate at Pearcy Auto Sales damaging 10 cars on the lot, according to a witness there.

The West Memphis Police Department recapped the incident: “On March 7, 2022, at approximately 1:30 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of MLK and Broadway for an accident and possible shots fired. Upon arrival the officers found the victim’s vehicle had hit the fence at Pearcy Auto Sales causing damage to the property and other vehicles on the lot. Officers made contact with a male passenger and a female driver. Both advised they were turning right (east) onto Broadway from South Walker when they began hearing gunshots. Both individuals stated that when the shots started, they ducked down.”

Neither was able to provide any description of a shooter. A witness at the scene reported counting five shots.
