I sure would be OK ….

I sure would be OK with some mean tweets and low gas prices right about now.

[Editor’s Note: Well, I guess the first thing I would like to say here is congratulations on being the one millionth person to share that idea with the rest of the world. I guess some people just don’t get it. If you really think that the only reason the American people voted Trump out of office because of “mean tweets” and that Trump (and not the crippling pandemic) had anything to do with gas prices being low, there’s really not anything I can say here that would do anything to change your world view. Now, I will say this… you clearly aren’t the only person who feels this way, and to each their own, but it’s probably worth asking yourself why you feel this way, and might there be a little more to what we are all going through than “mean tweets” and “low gas prices” here?

*** Who is running for Ingram’s spot? I know he will be missed! [ Editor’s Note: Well, a little bit of a spolier for tomorrow’s paper, but there are actually three candidates vying for the State Senate seat held by the not- runningfor- re- election Sen. Keith Ingram. And you’re right, it will be tough to replace Ingram and the champion he was for this part of the stat in the Arkansas Senate. The Democratic voters of the district will have to decide between former Turrell Mayor Dorothy Cooper and State Representative Reginald Murdock of Marianna. The winner of that primary will be facing the lone Rebublican who filed to run for Ingram’s old seat, businessman Terry Fuller of Poplar Grove. I don’t know Mr. Fuller, but it seems we have a mutual friend on Facebook in the form of my wife’s great aunt, so small world and all I guess. I would assume that with the deepening hold the Republican Party has on the state of Arkansas, this will be a real measuring stick on how deeply that penetration has gotten here in the Delta, one of the few remaining Democratic strongholds in the state.

And nothing against any of these candidates, but it’s a shame that none of the district’s largest cities ( West Memphis, Forrest City, Marion and Wynne) could produce a single candidate.

That’s not a very promising outlook for the people of this region, especially considering how marginalized any part of Arkansas that isn’t Little Rock or Northwest Arkansas already is. It’s also probably a sign that no matter who wins that seat, Jonesboro will become even more influential over the Mississippi Delta]
