The number of teachers teaching outside their speciality has been an ongoing

concern and yet it still occurs in many schools. If a hospital can’t get a doctor who is a Cardiologist, can they just get a doctor who is a Dermatologist, a Urologist or a Paediatrician for their cardiac care unit?

Schools should have teachers who actually know the material they are teaching.

[ Editor’s Note: From what I understand, schools are having a very difficult time hiring and retaining teachers at all right now, as the COVID- 19 pandemic has made it very difficult to teach right now and many teachers are opting out, I suppose as part of the socalled Great Resignation.

As a former school teacher and as someone with many former and current educators in my family and friends circle, I hear about all of these difficulties and it’s only going to get harder as time goes on. It’s probably one of the reasons that schools are trying something different, such as the Marion Schools going to the hybrid calendar or the potential move by West Memphis Schools to a fourday school schedule next year]
