Razorback men’s basketball returns to NCAA Top 10

arkansasrazorbacks.com FAYETTEVILLE — Thanks to a 6-0 start and a championship at the Hall of Fame Classic last week, Arkansas returned to top 10 in both the USA Today/Ferris Mowers Coaches poll (No. 9) and the Associated Press poll (No. 10).

The Razorbacks were ranked among the top 10 in both polls at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season before being ranked among the nation’s top 16 in the previous polls this season.

Arkansas will play the second of its current fourgame homestand today versus Central Arkansas.

Game time is set for 7 p.m.

The last time Arkansas hosted a game as the No.

10 team in the nation by Associated Press was Feb.

18, 1995, versus Ole Miss.

SEC honors Burks

FAYETTEVILLE — For the second time this season, Arkansas junior wide receiver Treylon Burks has been named SEC Offensive Player of the Week. The Warren, Ark. product hauled in seven receptions for 129 yards and a touchdown in the Razorbacks’ 34-17 win over Missouri last weekend.

Burks connected with Arkansas quarterback KJ Jefferson for a 52-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter for his 11th receiving touchdown of the season, tied for the secondmost in a single season in school history. He eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark in a game for the sixth time this season, setting a program record.

The wideout eclipsed the 1,000-yard receiving mark in a season during the game against the Tigers and ranks third in the school’s record book with 1,104 yards this year. His 2,399 career receiving yards are the sixth-most in school history.

Burks claimed his first SEC Offensive Player of the Week award this season by making six catches for 167 yards and a touchdown in Arkansas’ 20-10 win over then-No. 7 Texas A& M on Sept. 25.

Soccer has four named to All-Region teams

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas Soccer put four on the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region Teams, the organization announced on Monday afternoon. This marks the fourth straight season four or more Razorbacks have made appearances on the All-Southeast Region teams.

Bryana Hunter, Parker Goins and Anna Podojil made the region’s first team while Taylor Malham was named to the second team.

Hunter, the reigning SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year and first-team All-SEC member, joins the list for the first time. As a defender, Hunter netted two of the Razorbacks’ goals and led Arkansas position players in minutes played with 2,044. Goins makes her third appearance on the team, and second as a first teamer. The reigning SEC Midfielder of the Year and first team all-conference selection ranked second in the SEC with 14 assists.

Goins broke the program’s all-time career assist record this season, tallying 38.

Podojil finished the season leading the SEC in goals (16), points (38) and points per game (1.81), earning her third first team All-SEC nod. Goins and Podojil accounted for 27 of Arkansas’ 71 goals this season.

Senior midfielder Taylor Malham rounds out the Razorback contingent on the Southeast Region team. Malham makes her third appearance and her second as a second teamer.

Malham put away 11 goals, notching a career-best 28 points.

Wolfenbarger honored

FAYETTEVILLE — Jersey Wolfenbarger was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

award following week one. This marks the first time the Hogs have had two different players win Freshman of the Week in the same season since joining

Wolfenbarger, the consensus five-star recruit out of Northside High School in Fort Smith, has started to find her footing in the college game, as this week saw her help Arkansas beat both Sam Houston and Belmont in back-to-back days.

Against Sam Houston, Wolfenbarger put forth the best game of her young career, going for a seasonbest 16 points on an efficient 5-8 shooting clip. She also hit three of her four triples, showcasing the guard skills that make a player with her 6-5 frame so unique.

She got into double-figures for the second straight game against Belmont, who was receiving votes in the WBCA Coaches Poll, dropping in 10 more points. Her night helped the Hogs drop 83 points on Belmont, the most surrendered by the Bruins since March 6, 2020.

Wolfenbarger made three of her seven shots, and hit three of her four attempts from the foul line. She also pulled down four rebounds and dished a season-high three assists, showcasing her versatility.

Over the two games in two days stretch, Wolfenbarger, who came off the bench in both contests, averaged 13 points, 3.5 boards, 1.5 assists and 0.5 steals per game.
