Contractors place highest beam atop new casino and hotel

news@theeveningtimes.com Going up! Contractor Roy Anderson Corp. (RAC) reported yesterday topping out the twenty-story hotel build at Southland Casino Racing.

The new hotel plans featured 300 guest rooms adding to the busiest tourist attraction in the state.

Future guests may choose between 216 standard rooms, 72 corner suites or 13 penthouse suites to top off the room offerings.

Workers celebrated by hoisting an evergreen tree when the last beam was placed atop the tower.

“The evergreen symbolizes that construction has reached its highest point without loss of life and to bring good luck and prosperity for future occupants of the building,” said RAC across social media.

Concrete planned 25,000 cubic yards of concrete for 540,000 square foot, $250 million expansion.

Workers pushed a six level parking garage with 785 spaces west from the casino and hotel.

Building progress halted with the onset of the pandemic and pushed the timeline back nearly a year.

The new casino and restaurants will open in mid-2022 after 500 new gaming machines and 60 live table games open.

Southland Casino and Racing announced at the outset of the expansion plans to add 400 permanent jobs by project end to its 900 pre-pandemic employee roster and has hosted ongoing job fairs.
