All Kinds of Catches!

Vanessa Donagher sent along the photo on the left of her kids having a blast fishing the Archey Fork of the Little Red River at Bluffton Preserve over a recent weekend. Eight-year-old Eamon Donagher caught his very first smallmouth bass on a Texas-rigged 6-inch Yamamoto Senko (black with red flakes). Her other son had fun catching bream from a float “and we all enjoyed the gorgeous swimming holes that The Nature Conservancy has been trying to keep preserved and protected. A wonderful before-school-starts venture,” she said.In the photo on the right, guide Austin Kennedy knows how to handle the summer heat: Get out on the Beaver Lake Dam tailwater where he regularly catches trout like this. He says the trout bite has been pretty good moving into a hot August below the dam; most are being caught with various dough baits fished with light terminal tackle. Quarter-ounce spoons and shallow-diving crankbaits have also picked up quite a few fish, he adds. How much fun are you having out on Arkansas’s waterways with your rodsand- reels, or whatever you use to boat a nice fish? Send us your photo to run on the Fishing Report newsletter. Just email it to jim.harris@agfc.ar.gov.
