Marion School District teachers and staff took a major step forward in their fight against the Covid-19 pandemic during a district-wide vaccination clinic on Friday, February 5.

Approximately 250 staff members received their first dose of the vaccination during the event. Held at the Patriot Arena, the clinic was made possible through a joint effort involving local legislators, Laura Charlton and Marion Family Pharmacy, Dr. Susan Jones and the East Arkansas Family Health Center, and through the great work of district health coordinator Kelly Fogleman and the district’s fine staff of school nurses.

Because of the challenges associated with acquiring the large number of doses of the vaccine, securing the appropriate personnel to administer the vaccine, and other logistical issues, Marion pivoted to virtual learning for the day, with all students completing lessons at home.

“We believe this was a vital step forward in protecting the health and safety of both our staff and students,” said Dr. Glen Fenter, Marion superintendent. “We are committed to doing whatever it takes to provide the safest possible learning environment in our schools, and to eventually returning to

something resembling ‘normal.’ This was a great first step.”

With a growing enrollment of nearly 3,900 students, the Marion School District is committed to helping students develop the academic, social, and decision-making skills needed to become productive citizens in the rapidly changing technological world. Patriot Arena was turned into a makeshift vaccination clinic last week as members of the Patriots’ faculty and staff were able to receive their COVID-19 shots.
