WMPD arrests five on B&E charges

3 adults, 2 juveniles suspected in home, vehicle break-ins

Had a feeling someone has been in your vehicle overnight? West Memphis Police Criminal Investigation Captain Troy reported patrol of_cers swept up _ve suspects last week, on June 10. The police advice ‘if you see something say something’ paid off for a woman dealing with prowlers in her carport.

“Of_cers responded to the area of Stratford Drive in reference to several vehicles being broken into,” said Galtelli. Upon of_cers’ arrival, witnesses advised they heard noises coming from their driveway. The witness also stated that they observed 3 male subjects in their front yard with bicycles from her carport. While searching the immediate area, of_cers located three male subjects in the front yard of a residence on Richland Drive attempting to break into a vehicle. Once detained, a witness was able to positively identify the subjects as being those that broke into her vehicle and stole her bicycles.”

West Memphis investigators then inked a group _ve subjects to six separate vehicle break-ins in the area.

Detectives arrested Marcus Oliver, 18 years old, Shundray Pounds, 18 years old, Kevon Smith, 20 years old, and two other juveniles ages 13 and 14 years old. Police revealed that every single vehicle in the investigation had been left unlocked. The charges were for breaking and/or entering. Authorities urged city residents to establish a 9:00 p.m. routine as a personal safety and property protection habit to defer criminals from easy access.

Residents were urged to turn on exterior lights around the house, check and lock all car doors after taking valuables inside like tablets, cell phones, guns, and money, and lock up around the house.
