In the racing world, some greyhounds are know for their fast break out of the starting box, and the ASU Mid-South Greyhounds are doing just that, with the team moving to 3-0 Monday night with a dominating performance on the road.

The Greyhounds traveled up I-40 to take on the Crowley’s Ridge College JV squad and rained down triple-digit points to win by a lopsided score of 139-47.

The win comes off of a pair of impressive wins over the weekend in the 2019 Greyhound Tipoff Classic. Of Friday at the Dog House, the Greyhounds took control early and cruised to an 80-68 victory over North Lake College in the season- opener for both teams.

The win was the third season-opening win in a row for a program coming off a 22-9 season last year that saw ASU Mid-South also win their third NJCAA Region 2 Championship in a row.

Cruising to a 43-25 halftime lead, the Greyhounds played all 12 players who suited up as all five starters played less than half the game. All-Region guard Jalen Lynn led the way with 16 points in only 19 minutes while Ike Moore scored 13 points and pulled down a game-high 8 rebounds. Jarius Sharp scored 12 points in his Greyhound debut while Garret Finley added 10 points.

The Greyhounds went 11for-25 from the three-point line for an outstanding 44.0% from the arc while limiting the visiting Blazers to 3-for-22 (13.6%) from the three-point line and only 33.8% from the field. ASU Mid-South also won the battle of the boards 42-37 while assisting on 24 of 30 field goals. Next up for the Greyhounds was a Saturday matchup with Parkland College, the #7-ranked team in the NJCAA Preseason Poll. Down by 5 points at the half, the Greyhounds used a stifling defense and timely shooting to defeat the Cobras 67-56 in the final game of the Greyhound Tipoff Classic.

Parkland took a 36-31 first-half lead by going inside to forward Brunard Williams and center Joey Saracco as the two combined for 24 points in the first frame. Jalen Lynn and Zach Byrd kept it close for the Greyhounds, scoring a combined 25 points in the first half.

But after halftime, the Greyhounds (2-0) took control early, taking their first lead on a Lynn three-pointer with 17:47 remaining for a 38-36 lead, and then on the next possession Lynn hit another three-pointer from 26’ to make it 41-36 and ASU Mid-South would never trail again.

Lynn led all scorers with 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting while Byrd registered his first double-double of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Ike Moore added 10 points and 6 boards as the Greyhounds limited the Cobras to 34.7% shooting for the game including 0-for-15 from the arc.

The Greyhounds return to action on the road this weekend, playing in the Fairfield Inn Classic in Quincy, Illinois. On Friday, the Greyhounds take on John Wood Community College at 7 p.m. And on Saturday, it’s ASU Mid-South versus Black Hawk College-Moline at 1 p.m.

The Greyhounds return to the Dog House on Monday, Nov. 11 to take on Northwest Mississippi Community College at 7:30 p.m.
