The West Memphis Christian School Black Knights traveled to Marks, Mississippi to battle the Delta Academy Raiders on the gridiron Friday night.

The game was tight with answering scores from each team in the first half but the Raiders pulled away in the second half wining by 44–24.

“We were within shooting distance most of the time,” said Black Knights Head Coach Murry Rhodes. “We got stopped inside the five twice. We trotted down the field and stopped.”

Despite the disappointing final score the Black Knights produced one shining star. Matthew Land produced 250 all purpose yards.

“Number 11 carried us the whole way,” said Rhodes.

Injuries and a small roster repeated as factors in the game for West Memphis Christian School. The teamed lined up with seven high school players and an eight grader. The second half became war of attrition.

“We never stop being thankful for the fight the guys on this team have,” said Coach Rhodes. “They fought through this one too. The energy at half time was different. They were having fun and were really communicating. I stepped back and let them take over. It was fun to watch. We came up short on the scoreboard but it was a win for us.”

The Black Knights celebrate six seniors this coming Friday at home against Marvel Academy.

“We play the number two team in the state in front of the home crowd,” said Rhodes. “Who knows, they may rest some of their guys for the playoff hunt.”

The future of West Memphis Christian Football is bright. The Elementary Black Knights boast a three-year undefeated record of 22-0-1 under Coach Logan Williams.
