West Memphis’s Chris Morris commits to Texas A& M

WM School District In a video released Wednesday morning, West Memphis Blue Devil Chris Morris said he “never thought I’d see this day.”

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive tackle revealed his college commitment on Wednesday through a video on Twitter.

Morris, in his first year as a Blue Devil, is added to what was already a top 10 national recruiting ranking for the Aggies. He is rated a four-star prospect, the nation’s No. 3 offensive guard prospect and the No. 97 overall recruit in the 2020 recruiting cycle by 247 Sports Composite Rankings.

Morris said he chose A& M after narrowing his college choices to the Aggies, Tennessee, Oklahoma, LSU and Miami.

Morris said he visited A& M “eight or nine times.”

“I was able to develop a real tight relationship with the coaches there,” said Morris. “Each time I visited I would see something different. It just got to feel like it was home.”

By 2:14 p.m. on Wednesday, Morris’ recruiting video, in which he officially announced his decision, had garnered 79,600 views. Morris is coming off an official visit to College Station for the Alabama game, which was last Saturday.

“The recruiting process was fun for me,” said Morris. “You have people calling your home late at night, blowing your phone up to where you can’t go anywhere without someone wanting to talk to you about football.”

He said the pressure of football recruitment “has its ups and its downs.”

“I’m the number one offensive guard in the nation…I mean, who doesn’t want to be number one?” Morris added. “For some reason I’m listed as a guard, but I definitely think I can play tackle in college.”

Morris runs a 4.9 40-yard dash, he bench presses 415 pounds and he squats 680 pounds.

Morris said he’s loved his time in West Memphis, especially after scoring the winning points in overtime against Marion. The Blue Devils threw a backwards lateral to Morris, who ran for a two-point conversion in the team’s 41-40 win over the Patriots on Sept.

“I’ve had a chance to bond with several players,” he said. “It’s been pretty fun here for me. It’s been a blessing.”

Morris said he wants to eventually play in the NFL, but first there’s college, where he said he’ll major in criminology at Texas A& M.

“I want football to take me as far as it can,” Morris stated. “I’m just going to do the best I can with it.”
