The crowd at Friday’s non-league contest between the Earle Bulldogs and the host Cross County Thunderbirds in Cherry Valley, observed a hard-hitting contest that saw both teams evenly matched for three quarters before Earle was able to pull away late and come away with a wellearned road win by a final tally of 42-28.

Earle and Cherry Valley were deadlocked at 22-22 early in the 4th quarter before Cross County broke through with a touchdown to make it 28-22 Thunderbirds.

But from there it was all Bulldogs, as Earle unleashed an offensive flurry to score 20 unanswered points, including two touchdowns in the final two minutes of the game to seal the victory.

The Bulldogs now possess a 2-1 record. They play next when they host Lee County for a 2A Region 6 conference game contest on Friday, Sept. 27. Earle will play a Trojans squad coming off a 52-6 nonleague loss to Barton. The Trojans record now stands at 0-3.

Game time in Earle is 7 p.m.
