Marion’s Cail, Webb TD named Play of the Week

Patriots earn ice cream for cool play against Blytheville

Sure, the Marion Patriots basketball team won the State Championship and had a play featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter Top 10… but did they get ice cream?

Every week during football season, Jonesboro news station KAIT and Yarnell’s Ice Cream hold a contest for “Sweetest Play of the Week,” and for Week One, a pair of Marion Patriots earned the most votes.

“It’s time to announce the Yarnell’s Sweetest Play of the Week,” KAIT’s Chris Hudgison announced during yesterday’s Sports segment. “Over a thousand votes were cast on the kait8.com Sports page.”

Marion won out by 443 votes over Westside for a big play in which quarterback Daedrick Cail connected with receiver Slade Webb, who then put on a couple of slick moves to shake the Blytheville defense and rush toward the endzone for a Patriots touchdown.

“Webb had three receiving scores in the 1st half and a interception,” said Hudgison. “Marion beats Blytheville 44-14 in our Game of the Week.

Ice cream is coming to Marion, it’s the Yarnell’s Sweetest Play of the Week.”

The Patriots will be back in action tomorrow night, at home as they host the Wynne Yellowjackets.

Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
