Marion Volleyball moves to 3-0 with win over Greene County Tech

Marion School District After a tough season a year ago, Marion Volleyball (3-0 overall, 1-0 5A East) has started the season off strong. The Lady Pats want to make another trip to the state tournament, and made a strong case for themselves with a 3-0 match win over the Greene County Tech Lady Eagles (0-2, 0-1) last Thursday.

The two teams played close in the first two sets, with Marion winning 25-19 and 25-20, before Marion closed the door in the third set with a 25-12 win in set three to remain undefeated.

The win is a big one for Marion’s morale, considering GCT took six of the seven sets between the two teams a year ago.

Leading the charge for the Lady Pats offensively was sophomore Daedrianna Cail with 17 of Marion’s 41 kills. Not far behind her was sophomore Anna Caroline Fesmire with 11 kills of her own.

Junior Kersten Jackson converted on eight of her 18 kill attempts on the night for an impressive 44.4 percent kill rate.

Junior Myah Bradley and sophomore Kora Wilson recorded a pair of kills each and sophomore Kiara Ledezma also recorded a kill.

The Lady Pats recorded eight aces in their 73 serve attempts on the night.

Cail and senior Meagan Tolleson each recorded three aces and Wilson also served a pair.

Marion’s defense did not record any digging errors on their 39 attempts. Wilson had a team high nine digs, but right behind her were Fesmire and Tolleson with eight each. Cail and junior Camille Moncrief each had five digs.

Up next for the Lady Pats is a road trip to Nettleton (2-0, 1-0) on Thursday, September 5. The Lady Raiders won both games last year, and have a conference win over Searcy this season.

The night is scheduled to begin at 5:00 pm with the Junior A teams, followed by the Senior B teams before ending with the Senior A teams. The Senior A game will be available to watch on marionpatriots.
