Former Earle QB could be Bears’ best bet for the future

Going into the 2019 season, Baylor’s roster is solidified at quarterback with Charlie Brewer returning after spending most of the last two seasons as a solid starter.

The Bears’ future at quarterback also looks bright.

Baylor returns Gerry Bohanon, who received high praise from head coach Matt Rhule during his redshirt freshman season.

Bohanon was a four-star dual-threat quarterback out of Earle High School in Arkansas. He was the 10th-best ranked quarterback in the 2018 class by 247Sports.com.

Then the Bears added another pair of four-star quarterbacks in their 2019 recruiting class.

Jacob Zeno joined the Bears from San Antonio John Jay High School as the eight-best ranked quarterback of the 2019 class by 247Sports.com.

Baylor also nabbed the 14best quarterback in Odessa Permian High School’s Peyton Powell.

That’s three four-star quarterbacks on the roster who are all underclassmen. While Baylor has time to figure out which will be their quarterback of the future, the Bears need to start doing so this spring.

Zeno and Powell are already enrolled, meaning Rhule will get his first look at them this spring.

Having three young quarterbacks with plenty of potential is a good problem to have. Rhule and Baylor’s coaching staff can’t ignore this issue, especially in an era where players transfer quick and easy. Because of that, it seems unlikely that all three quarterbacks will be here in two years and the Bears need to learn who they want to stick around.

Either way, the future looks bright for Baylor at quarterback.
