Summer golf season is in full swing (pun intended) and the Marion Golf & Athletic Club kicked things off in style last week with their first-ever “Senior Scramble.”

Open to players 60 years old and up, the event was a four-man scramble style tourney, with a “hole-inone” challenge where an ace would have landed one lucky player a new car courtesy of Ford of West Memphis.

Premier Bank served as lead sponsor for the event, which included lunch for all players and officials on both days of the scramble, June 13 and 14.

There were seven foursomes in all taking part, with first place and the scramble championship going to the team of Jesse Davis, Rocky Clark, Sherman Wright and Gary Cordell. The foursome scored a 2-day total of 115.

In second place was the team of Ron Ellerman, Dewey Epps, Gary Rash and Wayne Bird, who shot a combined 123 and claimed second place in a scorecard playoff after a four-way tie after both days.

In third place was the team of David Williams, Jim Warren, Alan Cox and Don Odom, who also shot a 123.

In fourth place was the team of Billy Cox, Jim Good, Mike Overall and John Pippen with a combined two-day total of 123 as well.

Larry Rose, Steve Cloyd, Joe Pierce and Robert Lee also shot a 123 and came in fifth place in the scorecard playoff.

With a two-day total score of 125, the foursome of James Wilson, Danny Bradley, Eddie Spears and Paul Ginn finished in sixth place.

And rounding out the field was the team of Mark Summers, Don Robbins, Joe Combs and John Ivy, who scored a 125 and finished in seventh place in a scorecard playoff.
