The Crittenden County Election Commission will meet in the Crittenden County Office Building adjacent to the courthouse on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 12 noon, to certify the results of the Nov. 6, 2018, General Election. Across Crittenden County, some familiar faces will be returning to office, but a few new faces will be guiding local government as well come Jan. 1, 2019. Crawfordsville Mayor Joe Marotti won his re-election bid, turning back the challenge of Sterling Briggs Jr. by a 116-46 vote. Earle Mayor Sherman Smith was also successful in his run for a full term after finishing out former mayor Carolyn Jones’s term after she was recalled. Smith beat his opponent Ramonda Henderson 358236 to retain his seat. Not as fortunate was Turrell mayor Dorothy Cooper. Cooper was beaten by a 2-to-1 margin in her re-election bid by Charles Edward Webster, 140-70. Cooper had made an unsuccessful bid for Keith Ingram’s State Senate seat in May before declaring her intent to seek re-election. In Marion, Frank Fogleman was re-elected. For the second straight election Marion City Councilman Kelly O’Neal challenged Fogleman and for the second straight election, Fogleman was victorious. Mayor Fogleman received 2,210 votes to O’Neal’s 1,400. And in the race many were watching with a close eye, the West Memphis mayor’s race is headed to a runoff. Last Tuesday, West Memphis City Councilman Wayne Croom received the most votes overall, garnering 1,494 — or 27.45 percent of the vote. Behind Croom, fellow West Memphis City Councilman Marco McClendon netted 1,312 votes — or 24.11 percent. The pair were by far the largest vote-getters of the race, with no other candidate breaking the 800 vote mark. City Councilwoman Ramona Taylor was third with 793 votes. West Memphis Policeman Eric Johnson was fourth with 788. Quorum Court Justice Lorenzo Parker was fifth with 623 votes, and businessman Fred Leonard rounded out the field taking in 432 votes.
