The Docette’s Society presents 49th Debutante Cotillion

Annual gathering this Sunday night at West Memphis Civic Center

The time has finally come. On Sunday, Dec. 10, the Docette will present 11 beautiful debutantes to society during the 49th annual Cotillion. Each year the Docette’s select young ladies that are seniors in surrounding area high schools. This year young ladies include Khaniya Callicutt, Kara Fenner, Bryshonna Fletcher, Simyia Jeter, Breuna Smith, Katara Watkins, Jessica Whitfield, Shiaera Williams, Tranaya Wright, Reundrea Ward and Arrielle Woods.

Mr. Marcus Brown, Coach of West Memphis Senior High will be our spotlight of the year and we will dedicate our book this year to Mr. Darrell and Dr. Chasity Dean-Anthony founder and CEO of POP (Producing Outstanding People).

The coming out event will be held on Sunday, Dec.

10, at 6 p.m. at the West Memphis Civic Center.

“It has been a very busy year for us, from the month of September, until the present, Mr. Leonard Robinson, Director of Choreography and Ms.

Robbin Booth, has been practicing with the debutantes and their escort on every Monday night to prepare for the big event.”

This year activities included, Workshop, which was very informative to Debutantes, Debutantes participated in a mother and daughter dinner. Each Debutante had to write a special letter to their mother and read it to her. Some of the Debutantes did a special presentation to their MOM.

Activities also included Pizza Party for Debutante, Escort and Ladies in Waiting (Debutante for next Year). Debutantes was also involved in the Breast Cancer walk for Susan G.

Komen, and a visit at the nursing home to cheer the patients up which included singing to the patients and giving them a token.

Tranaya Wright Debutantes were also involved in community services project. Each Debutante had to volunteer time to a business, elderly, etc. After their jobs were completed, each debutante was required to have a job approved on an approval form and write an essay about the service they performed.

The Docette Society Club is a non-profit organization dedicated to community involvement, humanitarian service and cultural enrichment. After being organized in 1968, the Docette Society Club has presented the Debutante Cotillion for the past 48 years. The three rings of D’s signify their commitment to dedication, determination, and devotion to the community and youth.

Docette members include President Cynthia Cotton Cheatham, Vice President Carolyn G. Mills, Treasurer Betty Robinson, Secretary Dorrinda Roberts, and Sergeant at Arms Gregory Roberts, Public Relations Coordinator Carl Ely and Director of Choreography Leonard Robinson.
