Teen wanted for Citgo shooting arrested, facing murder charges

ralphhardin@gmail.com Seventeen-year-old Dequaris Adair is behind bars following his arrest last week for the purportedly gang-related fatal shooting of a West Memphis man a Citgo gas station at the intersection Avalon and Tyler.

On Saturday, Sept. 10, say police, Adair had a confrontation in the store with Frank Williams, 25. A witness stated Adair shot Williams, who fell to the floor. Adair then moved to stand over him and continued firing multiple times.

West Memphis Police Captain Joe Baker acknowledged the shooting was likely related to a shots fired just a couple blocks away on Jackson Avenue at Redding on Aug. 1. The two had “an ongoing feud,” according to Baker. Adair had a criminal record, was being charged as an adult and is wanted on a warrant for first degree murder but remained at large.

A witness stated Adair shot down Frank Williams, 25, and then moved to stand over him and to continue shooting. “When officers got to the gas station they found the victim lying on the floor unresponsive,” said West Memphis Police Lieutenant Troy Galtelli. “After medical help was administered, that is when we watched the video and saw the altercation take place and the suspect fleeing the scene.

Williams walked in and that is when the alteration occurred.”

Williams died after being transported to Regional One Medical Center.

Adair, who fled the scene was arrested Thursday night by the United Stated Marshall’s Office Eastern Arkansas Regional Task Force. Though 17, he has been charged with Murder in the First Degree and is currently being held at the Crittenden County Detention Center on a $1,000,000 bond.
