The Earle Lady Bulldogs qualified for their regional tournament by beating Cross County 67-36.
It’s the first time that Earle has qualified for the regional for the first time in Corey Garrett’s third season at the helm.
Earle got 19 points from freshman RoShala Scott, 13 from LaDeryca Childs, nine from Aundrea Allen and a double-double from Tekelia Baker of 11 points and 13 rebounds.
“We played good team defense and played a real game,” Garrett said of his team’s quarterfinal victory.
“We were real unselfish.”
Earle’s semifinal game will feature their third meeting with defending Class 2A state champion Marmaduke at 7 p.m. That game will be followed by the Earle Bulldogs opening their run at the district tournament at 8:30 p.m. The boys will play East Poinsett County.
The Earle boys and girls will each play in the regional tournament, which will be held at Sloan-Hendrix High School, but their respective seeds are yet to be determined.
Once there, the teams will have to win a game to qualify for the Class 2A state basketball tournament in Marmaduke.
