Dennis Seiden, Sr.

Dennis Seiden, Sr., 82, of Marion died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at his home.

Mr. Seiden was a US Navy veteran and an employee at E.I. Dupont for 34 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford Grover Seiden and Beatrice Mary Paquette Seiden; by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Groh Seiden; by a brother, Wayne; and a sister, Judy; and also by his mother in law, Ethel Mae Groh.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Spence of Flolley, New York and Colleen Weese (Dalmas) of Albion, New York; three sons, Dennis Seiden, Jr. (Cindy) of Marion,, Paul Seiden (Beverly) of Flolley, New York and William Seiden (Jamie) of Hot Springs Village; two sisters, Joyce Perri of Rochester, New York and Jane Kicak (Pete) of San Diego, California; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and good friends, Neil and Diane Schneider of Holley, New York.

The family requests that memorial donations in his honor be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

George Noah Starr

George Noah Starr, 87, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016. Mr. Starr was a native of Lafayette, Louisiana and had lived in the Memphis area since 1959. He was preceded in death by his parents, William James Starr and Mae Wood Starr as well as his wife of 41 years, Evelyn Woodard Starr. He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Barbara E. Starr; a sister, Betty Starr Heard (Dick) of Lafayette, Louisiana; a brother, James B. Starr (Ruby) of St. Paul, Minnesota; sons, William C. Starr (Margie) of Ellicott City, Maryland, S. Harry Starr (Jo Anna) of Bartlett, Tennessee, James T. Reece (Ann) and Kyle Allen Reece (Rhonda) of Hughes; daughters, Linda D. Starr-Spires (Karen) of Milford, New Jersey and G.G. Elmore (Dee) of Eads, Tennessee;, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren.

Mr. Starr was a graduate of Southwestern Louisiana Institute of Lafayette, Louisiana and Memphis State University where he was awarded Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Starr served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant aboard the USS Yosemite during the Korean conflict. Upon return to civilian life he worked as a design engineer. In 1933 Mr. Starr entered private practice as an engineering consultant and served frequently as an expert witness. In the course of doing design work, Mr. Starr was awarded 12 patents for various devices.

In 1974 Mr. Starr became an adjunct faculty member of the Herff College of Engineering at Memphis State University where he taught part-time until 1994.

Mr. Starr was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, held professional licenses in AR, LA, MS, and was a member of MENSA and the Order of the Engineer. Mr. Starr was a member of Bartlett United Methodist Church where he taught adult Sunday school classes and served as liturgist. He had fond memories from singing in the choir at the United Methodist Church in Hughes and at St. Peter in Memphis.

A memorial will be planned at a later time. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any memorials be sent to the United Methodist Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or the Memphis Union Mission.
