Annual benefit for Special Olympics of Arkansas set for Saturday

The annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Arkansas has been rescheduled. The event will now take place on Saturday Jan. 30, at Lake Dunn Swim Beach in Village Creek State Park.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the plunge — for those that dare — will be at noon.

The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity for individuals, organizations, schools and businesses to support local Special Olympics athletes by jumping into Lake Dunn — yes, in January!

It's not just an event — it is an experience. The Polar Plunge is a chance to be one of the thousands of chilled souls across the state who have plunged into wintry waters to show their support and raise money for Special Olympics Arkansas.

One of the most anticipated features of the Polar Plunge is the costume contest. Plungers are encouraged to dress in outrageous costumes when they plunge. Prizes are given for best costume and most money raised in the individual and team categories. Too chicken to plunge, not a problem — there is something for you too.

The official “I Chickened Out” long sleeve t-shirt will be available on sale for a $25 donation to Special Olympics Arkansas.

“The plunge is fun for the entire family,” said Theresa Book, Field Representative for Special Olympics. “We have something for everyone. Even if you are not plunging, you can support Special Olympics Arkansas by taking part in being at the plunge to support the brave folks who do plunge and have a dry towel or warm blanket in hand when they leave the cold water.
